Silkra SEO Spider

How the Silkra SEO Spider crawler identifies itself, how it behaves, and how to block it.

What is Silkra SEO Spider?

Silkra SEO Spider is the crawler component of the Silkra desktop application, a tool for website auditing and technical SEO analysis. Site owners and SEO professionals use it to crawl and analyse websites — most commonly their own.

Silkra is desktop software. Crawls run from the individual user's machine and network connection, not from servers we operate. If you see Silkra SEO Spider in your logs, the traffic originates from a Silkra user who directed the app at your site, not from Silkra's infrastructure.

How to identify it

The crawler identifies itself with the following user-agent:

  • Silkra SEO Spider/1.0 (+https://usesilkra.com/bot)

Default behaviour

Out of the box, the crawler is configured to be polite:

  • Respects robots.txt directives, including crawl-delay, by default.
  • Rate-limited by default (delay between requests, low concurrency).
  • Honours standard exclusions and does not attempt to bypass authentication or access controls.
  • Caps response sizes and page counts per crawl.

How to block it

To disallow Silkra SEO Spider from crawling your site, add the following to your robots.txt file:

  • User-agent: Silkra SEO Spider
  • Disallow: /

Reporting a problem

Our terms require users to crawl responsibly and only where they are authorised. If a Silkra user is crawling your site in a way that causes problems — excessive load, ignored directives, or crawling you did not authorise — contact us at support@usesilkra.com with the relevant log entries (timestamps, IP address, user-agent, and request paths) and we will investigate.
